BEING AN EMCEE IS NOT AS EASY AS IT LOOKS
So, to the girls whom Sze Yee overheard criticizing us for our occasional flawed punctuation, and to all those skeptics who thought we would screw up really badly, at least we did an OK job!
Rhyss was really professional man. Throughout the rehearsal and concert, I was really paranoid and kept asking her whether my performance was OK and so on and she was really patient with me, helping me, going through the dreaded song routine with me and assuring me all the time. When the time came for the song routine, I was trembling so badly that my cue cards were shaking! After the concert, some of them even told me that they could hear the tremor (which was around 100000 on the Richter Scale) when I was singing! But seriously, I can't ask for a better MC to work with so, THANKS RHYSS!!! LOVE YOUUUU!!
I was super nervous throughout but I think it got better over time and by the time the Band was playing their Lion King repertoire, Rhyss and I were gyrating backstage! Hahaha!Oh ya! I have to mention this! Rhyss and I experienced a malu moment during rehearsals. As we weren't told that the first 2 songs had 3 movements each, we pai-seh-ingly stepped out CONFIDENTLY after the end of the first movement and praised the Band endlessly before we realized that we were not supposed to come out! After that embarrassing incident, one of the band members, who was not due to perform yet, made an effort to constantly remind us on the number of movements for the songs during the actual concert. HAHAHA! At least, we didn't screw up during the actual concert!
Anyway, it was a good first experience and I wanna seriously thank God for everything, for answering my prayers and for giving me strength. All glory be to you! =)
OH! And Sam did a great job as well! Her flute solo's like woah! Seriously good and she deserves it!
When I first stepped out onstage, the first thing I heard was the distinctive voice of Jonathan Chia:
"Eh! Shi Yun leh!!"
And that was how I spotted Sze Yee! Turned out that Andrew, his mum and younger brother came to support Xavier too! Haha! And I saw Fiona, Michelle (from church) and Wei Lin and Wenyi told me that they were there too.
Oh ya! I have to mention this! Before the rehearsal, we had Meet-the-parents session and my Dad attended it. So, like what I told some of my friends, I wanted to confront Ms. Ng regarding the issue of Service-Learning and that I did. I even told my Dad beforehand how we were supposed to go about doing that but Ms. Ng swiftly talked her way through it and when things were starting to look bright, she conveniently told us VERY POLITELY that she had to attend to other parents, nice to see you Mr Ow Yong but it's goodbye for now...
SO, so, so, so...my Dad decided to take it up to a higher level and after saying that, we immediately saw the Principal walking in our direction! Ms. Choo kindly sat us down and arrested the problem. She told me to think of other ways to deal with domineering teachers and after that she had a loooooong chat with my Dad about life and how she did not want to be a student at our age cos it's tough! After that, she told us that she had to get ready for the Band Concert she will be attending tonight and after hearing her say that, my Dad JUST had to tell her that I was the emcee for the event. So, she was like "see you there!"
As I was already late for rehearsal, I rushed off and left my father to wander on his own. During the rehearsal, Rhyss told me that her mum met the Principal as well! SUPER COINCIDENTAL RIGHT? Hahaha...
Well, the Principal did acknowledge our presence during the concert and she was full of encouragement. She praised us during intermission and when she was onstage to receive her token..Hahaha!
Anyway, thanks Charlene and Marie-Anne and Ai Ping for the rose! Ai Ping, It's nice OK! Even my mum said it was creative! :P
Also, for everyone's support in one way or another...you know who you are! :P
